This lesson walks you through the no-code side of Whop. By the end you'll have a business, a product with a price, and a checkout link anyone can pay at. Not bad for one sitting.

Before You Start#

All you need is an email address and a rough idea of what you want to sell. Everything here happens in Whop's dashboard, right in your browser.

Heads up, Whop's dashboard changes from time to time, so a button might move or get renamed on you. If something looks different, Whop's help docs at docs.whop.com have the current steps.

Create Your Business#

Whop calls your seller account a business. The developer docs call it an account. Same thing, two names.

Step 1. Go to the seller page#

Open whop.com/sell and select Start selling. Sign up or log in when Whop asks.

Step 2. Choose how you'll use Whop#

Whop gives you two options here.

  • Build and sell digital products on Whop. Pick this if Whop will host your product, take payments and deliver access.
  • Use Whop for payment processing only. Pick this if you just want checkout links and you'll deliver the product somewhere else, like your own app.

Select the one that fits, then select Next.

Step 3. Name your business#

Type a name for your business and follow the prompts to finish. Don't sweat getting it perfect. Whop's docs say you can change it later.

Create a Product#

A product is the thing you sell. Pricing lives on the product too.

Step 1. Open Products#

In your dashboard, go to Products and select Create product.

Step 2. Describe it#

Enter a product name and a short headline. Whop limits each one to 80 characters. You can add a banner image too.

Step 3. Pick a pricing type#

Whop has three pricing types.

Pricing typeWhat it does
FreeGives people access without paying. Useful for collecting emails and building an audience
One-timeCharges once for lifetime access
RecurringA subscription, such as monthly or yearly

Choose a currency and type in your price. For a recurring price you also pick the billing period.

Step 4. Choose payment methods#

Pick what customers can pay with. Depending on the pricing type, Whop's docs list options like cards, PayPal, bank transfer, crypto and buy now pay later. Recurring prices get fewer options than one-time prices.

Step 5. Select Next#

Hit the Next button in the top right to move on from pricing.

Step 6. Add apps (or skip them)#

Toggle ON the apps or experiences buyers should get after they pay, like a course or a chat. Toggle off the ones they shouldn't get. Buyers get access to whatever you toggle on.

If you're only using Whop to collect payments and you deliver the product somewhere else, like your own app, Whop's docs say you don't need to add apps. Skip this step.

Step 7. Finish and save#

Add any media, write a description, then select Create.

Verify your identity before you can collect payouts

A checkout link sends a customer straight to a payment page. It's the EASIEST way to get paid, since you can paste it anywhere.

In your dashboard, go to Checkout links. You'll see any links you already have.

Select + Create checkout link, then pick the product the link is for.

Step 3. Set the pricing#

Choose Free, One-time or Recurring. For recurring links Whop also offers extras like free trials, an initial setup fee and installment plans, which Whop calls split payments.

Step 4. Adjust the advanced options#

These are optional. You can set a stock limit, add a waitlist, ask questions before checkout, make access expire, or send people to your own page after they pay. You can also give the link an internal name so you can find it later (future you will appreciate that).

Select Create checkout link and copy the URL. Drop it in an email, a social post, or behind a button on your website.

To change a link later, find it in Checkout links, open the three-dot menu and choose Edit.

Getting Paid Out#

Money from sales lands in your Whop balance first. To move it to your bank, you set up payouts.

Step 1. Open Balances#

Go to Dashboard and then Balances.

Step 2. Set up Whop Payments#

Select Set up Whop Payments and choose your country, so payouts show up in your local currency.

Step 3. Verify your identity#

Whop asks you to complete KYC, which stands for Know Your Customer. You fill in your details, link your bank and upload ID. Whop's docs describe this as the identity check a business has to clear before it can get payouts. Kinda tedious, totally normal.

Step 4. Pick a payout method and schedule#

Add a payout method, like a bank account, and choose how often you want to get paid. Whop's docs mention instant, daily or weekly schedules, depending on your account.

TL;DR#

  • Start at whop.com/sell, choose how you'll use Whop, and name your business
  • Pick "payment processing only" if your product lives in your own app
  • A product has a name, a headline, a pricing type and the apps buyers get
  • The three pricing types are free, one-time and recurring
  • Checkout links are shareable payment pages, and they're live the second you create them
  • Practice in the sandbox, and set up Whop Payments with KYC before you can withdraw

What's Next?#

Next you'll look at Whop from the developer side, with API keys, checkout from code, access checks and webhooks...

This lesson ends with 2 short activities.
