What Clerk Handles for You#

Take a second and look at how much work Clerk saves you.

That's potentially WEEKS of work, handled with a few lines of code.

Clerk's Dashboard#

Clerk gives you a dashboard where you can do all of this.

  • See all your users
  • View login activity
  • Configure security settings
  • Customize the look of login pages
  • Turn features on or off

None of it needs code. You just point and click in the dashboard.

Pricing#

Check the free tier and paid plan before you launch

Here's the part I always scroll to first. Clerk has a generous free tier. As of October 2026 it looks like this.

  • Hobby (free). Up to 50,000 monthly retained users per app
  • Pro. $25 per month, or $20 per month billed annually

For most projects, ESPECIALLY when you're just starting out, the free plan is plenty. One catch though. Some features, like two-factor auth and SMS codes, are free to try in development but need a paid plan once your app is live. Prices and limits change though, so check clerk.com/pricing for the current numbers before you lean on them.

TL;DR#

  • Authentication is proving who a user is (login and signup)
  • Building authentication yourself is risky and eats a lot of time
  • Clerk handles passwords, verification, social login and more
  • You add Clerk to your app with just a few lines of code
  • Clerk gives you a dashboard to manage users and settings
  • The free Hobby plan covers up to 50,000 monthly retained users per app (check clerk.com/pricing for the current limit)

This lesson ends with a short activity.
